“These are two 100% cotton white t-shirts. At first glance, they might seem identical, so we might assume they have the same environmental impact. However, cotton, depending on whether you source it from India, China, Turkey, or the United States, has a completely different environmental impact. The plant will require more water in one place, more pesticides in another, the land use will vary, the country’s energy mix will differ, and therefore you can see variations of 1 to 4, depending on the country where your garment is produced and manufactured.”
